Seeing Like an Official offers a new perspective on the Southern Song state through the eyes of one of its most dedicated local officials, Huang Zhen (1213–1281). Drawing on Huang’s Daily Notes, an extraordinary compilation of administrative writings, Sukhee Lee reconstructs the daily practice of governance in thirteenth-century China.
