In Canada, the latter half of the nineteenth century marked a break with the settler past and beginning of an age of commercialization. The author shows how Protestant evangelists used theater, film, and jazz to make religion relevant to their audiences. He shows that by adjusting their methods these evangelists added to Canadian Protestantism.
