First published in 1993, this book was a Festschrift in honour of Alan Blyth (1921–2000), who had been Professor of Education at the University of Liverpool and since 1965, a major influence on the study and practice of primary education in England and Wales. The theme and title were suggested by Blyth, as were the contributors.
