This autobiography of the prominent Church of Scotland minister Alexander Carlyle was eventually published, in an edition by the historian John Hill Burton, in 1860. A humorous and hugely entertaining work, it offers a fascinating insight into the intellectual and social world of eighteenth-century Edinburgh and London.
