Focusing on the concept of 'political correctness', this is the first study to systematically trace its development from its origins in the Women’s Liberation movement in the US in the 1970s and 1980s, to its introduction into mainstream debate in the 1990s, and its reversal into a concept used mainly by the extreme right from the 2010s onwards.
