Emerging from the anonymity of a Scottish new town in the early 1980s, The Jesus and Mary Chain have carved a path through alternative music that is as confrontational as it is hypnotic. Formed by brothers William and Jim Reid, the band fused sweet, 1960s-style pop melodies with walls of distortion, feedback, and drum-machine minimalism.
